We are a primary birthing facility for women having a low risk birth and we welcome women who wish to book for post natal stay after birth at Southern District Hospital. We provide for birth in a private setting and also offer water birth at our centre. Our Lead Maternity Careers (LMC) midwives also attend home births or births at Southern District Hospital.

Our unit is staffed by Registered nurses whom are all confident in postnatal care and are current with breastfeeding issues.  Our facitlity is a Breast Feeding Hospital Iniative compliant unit. 

LMC midwifery care at Tuatapere Maternity provides complete pregnancy and birth care as well as postnatal care with competent compassionate midwives. You will receive one on one attention, education, support and guidance, post natal home visits, postnatal stays where partners/whanau are welcome, and great meals.

During our biannual antenatal classes, provide expectant mothers and their partners with confidence in their ability to successfully labour and birth as well as with parenting essentials. A variety of techniques are used to engage couples in their own learning.
